One Year

This little boy turned one year old today.

How we love him.

I can't believe how much he has grown and learned in only one year. He is such a little kid now, running all over the house, climbing, eating big boy food, knowing the names of almost every object in the house...

Sometimes I'm amazed that I've actually kept this little person alive for this long. What also amazes me is that Jordan and I have also survived. It has been a busy and trying, but ultimately wonderful, whirlwind.

Today I kept thinking where I was one year ago. At 10 am, Kimball was playing with his new toys. Last year at that same time, my contractions were starting up again after a 7 or 8 hour break (preceded by a whole day's worth of contractions), and we were getting ready to go to the hospital. Today at noon, Kimball and I were shopping. Last year I was waiting, waiting for the anesthesiologist to administer the epidural. Today at 4 pm, Kimball was snoozing in his crib. Last year, I was half-snoozing while the epidural did its magic. And tonight at 8 pm, Kimball will be in bed, while at the same time last year, he had only been born nine minutes previously. It's just interesting for me to think about...

On Saturday we had a great big party in our little apartment. All of Kimball's grandparents, all of his great grandparents on my side, one of his great aunts, and many of his uncles were here to wish him a happy birthday. He was so excited to see his family! He kept running back and forth between grandmas, seeming somewhat surprised that there really were two of them and that they were in the same room with each other.

I decorated the walls with colorful circles, since circles are his favorite shape. He loves anything circular and always points it out to me.

We played "tape the pacifier on the Kimball".

I'm not a big cake maker, so we had apple and pumpkin pie for dessert. Kimball loooved his pumpkin pie!

Kimball is really into clapping right now. If there is applause, he looks around the room to make sure everyone is clapping with him.

WE LOVE YOU KIMBALL! HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY!

Here are some more pictures of Kimball on his first Christmas.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE MAN!

Ashley, you words are beautiful. It makes me a little weepy to see you and Jordan as you care for and love this baby so much and so well. He has blessed our family with heavenly doses of love. Thank you for letting us share in that. It is almost impossible to think of life without this babyangel.

Now, just imagine what another year will bring! Talking, more learning and understanding, a stronger sense of self identity, driving a car . . .

Happy Birthday little man! I can't believe that it has already been a year. Doesn't it make you a little sad to think about how fast time goes by? I know it does for me. I can't wait to see what the next year brings for you and your sweet little family!
