Progress and Come Sail Away!

We sold our washer and dryer yesterday, hooray! Only now that means we have three weeks to go, with undoubtedly many loads to wash until then. The absence of the machines means more space for stacking boxes, so that's a good thing.

Possibly one of the weirdest things I have tossed out so far while packing is a cassette tape that was...burned? copied? recorded? what is it called when you copy songs from one cassette to another?...Anyway, it was made for me in high school by my friend Christine. It was Styx: "The Grand Illusion" (1977). Haha. I'm not sure what made me more nostalgic--the memories of listening to that music, or the fact that it was on a cassette. It's not like burned CDs weren't around. My friends were giving me burned CDs at least four or five years before that. Yet listening to cassettes in my car wasn't old-school yet. I had to throw away that tape and many more awesome mix tapes that I had been hanging onto for some strange reason. I haven't had a cassette player in years!

I still have my very first cassette tape that I ever got. It is Julian Lennon's Valotte. I'm sure you have never heard of him, but I can't throw it away for nostalgic reasons.

I still have a box of cassette tapes, even though I have given all of my stereos with tape players to the DI's! Odd!

Haha, that is so weird. I don't remember making that for you. I *own* that album on cassette* (acquired it from my dad), so did I copy it from cassette to cassette or what? Also, I like that album, but I'm not a super huge Styx fan or anything. Weird stuff always pops up when you are moving!

*I still own some cassettes because my car doesn't have a CD player, so they've resided in my car for some time now...even though I only have several and don't listen to them that often. I want to get a new car stereo, but I can't bring myself to drop the money on it.

Jen, big Beatles fan here, so of course I know who Julian Lennon is! I can't say I've ever heard any of his music, though.

Christine, like you, I don't call myself a Styx fan, but I did kind of enjoy that album. Though, I think it is an album that would sound best coming from a cassette tape for some reason!

Also, I'm sure you copied it from cassette to cassette, or maybe I did because I had a tape player with two tape decks for that very purpose.
