Summertime Fun, or, When the World Came to Visit

This summer has brought us many visitors. We love seeing family and friends that live far away! Where to begin?

In July, Jordan's cousin Shannon visited Utah for a few days. I was so excited to meet her! She loved meeting baby Kimball and hanging out with all of her cousins at the Haug home. One day Jordan and I took her to BYU for a tour, since she wants to apply there after she graduates from high school. This tour was a special tour, since we took it on a tandem bicycle! While two of us rode the tandem, the third person rode a mountain bike. I think Shannon enjoyed herself, despite my wild steering!

Jordan's cousin Katie and her husband Eric and their two children came up from New Mexico for a week. I had not seen Katie since the first time I had met her at our wedding dinner. We've corresponded a lot through blogs and emails, but it was so great to see her again get to know the rest of her family. We had a blast seeing "Julie and Julia" together...I highly recommend it!

We were able to see our wonderful friends, Dave and Diane, during their annual visit to Utah from London. (Dave and Di met us at the airport and showed us some sights when we went to London on our honeymoon. It was so nice to have friends in an otherwise very foreign place!) They are so charming, funny, and pleasant to be with, and I was so happy that we were able to get together this year and introduce them to Kimball, and congratulate them on their soon-to-arrive first grandbaby! A group of us went to Park City for some dinner and a ride up the ski lift and down the Alpine Slide. Kimball stayed at the bottom with Grandma Bea. I'm sure he was happier that way. Maybe in a few years, he can ride on one of our laps!

Jordan's sister Kourtney and her husband Adam flew in from Boston and were able to meet Kimball for the first time! It was so good to see them. We're hoping that we can take a trip out to Boston to visit them sometime.

Mary and Johannes are Jordan's aunt and uncle. They stopped by for a few days with their two boys on their trip out West. Johannes has a wonderful German accent that is so fun to listen to. One night, they made a German meal for everyone that was so delicious! That they also brought their two parrots (one of which whistles Beethoven's 5th) was very entertaining.

Cousins Bryan and Ed were in town to take charge of Cousin Camp, which I hear was a very fun success! (I will have to take Kimball for at least a day next year...maybe for the Heber Creeper ride?) Kimball and I got to visit with them at Grandma Bea's on their last morning in town. It was great to see them again.

Although they're not too far out of town, it was fun to see my aunt Beth, cousin Jen, and two of Beth's granddaughters. We got to meet up at the opening of Froyo, my cousin Corey's new frozen yogurt restaurant (stop by if you get the chance--the frozen yogurt is tops! Edit: A Grand Opening party is on September 12th, noon, at 598 West Main Street, American Fork. Stop by for some good Froyo!). Kimball loved his little cousins!

Finally, we got to see a family from Naperville that we have known for many years. I must have been a wee little girl when we met, because I don't remember ever not knowing them. We often had good Sunday dinners together and spent hours playing night games in the dark. It was great to catch them for lunch while they were in Utah!

Whew! I hope that was everybody! Yes, it has been zanily busy, but oh so fun! We love all of our friends and family that came to visit and hope to see you again soon!

We had such a good time seeing you and your little family. Next time we are down that way, we should do it again. Maybe at Froyo again!
I love the tandem bike. Did you think it was scary to ride the first time you rode one? I sure did!

Heehee! In the pic of Kimball and the cousins at Froyo, Kimball looks like he just snagged a pal and is quite pleased with himself!
