I never wish that I wasn't a mother. Sure, some days can be long, monotonous, boring, repetitive, frustrating, and draining. But that's only a fraction of what our days are like. Kimball is so full of life and joy. I enjoy him so much and miss him when we're not together. I think he is the smartest, cutest, best kid. Like I hope all of you other mothers feel about your children. I think we all have the smartest and the cutest, because that's just how mothers see their children. And that's how it should be.

One of my most favorite times, and one of the crowning moments of my motherhood, is bedtime. We rock in the rocking chair with the lights low and the sound of rain coming from the CD player. Sometimes Kimball falls asleep by the end of the bottle, and at these times, I love seeing his full, milky lips puckered up at me and feeling his sweet warm breath. Usually I let him lay against my chest for a few minutes, just so I can spend some time in Heaven.
Other times, like last night, he was awake after the bottle, and rested with his head on my shoulder while I rocked and sang to him. He put his arm around me and laid his little hand on my neck. Then he sat up and we played our secret game, where we smile and coo and laugh at each other, quietly of course, because I am supposed to be helping him get sleepy, and we don't want Daddy to get suspicious. Sometimes he tries to give me kisses with an open mouth. Sometimes, he gets tickled (shh, don't tell!). Then I put him in his crib, where he usually just quietly puts himself to sleep. Such a good boy.
Yes, I love daytime and playtime, but there's nothing like bedtime.

Kimball's so cute! Those are great pictures. I love the middle one of the bottom three.
FROM GRANDMA JUDY:
Ashley,
I read this and loved every word. It was not one bit sappy! Mother to Mother, I know what heaven you are speaking of. I have loved bedtime and the sweet blissful time that it is with each one of my children-- especially of course when they were babies because of that heavenly tenderness between mommy and baby. But even later, is is still a special time to end the day by connecting with your children. I have hung on to that as long as the growing teenagers would let me...
P.S.-- I am so gratefult too that Kimball has such a wonderful Mommy!
FROM GRANDPA KURT:
I loved your comments too, Ashley. In fact, today I substituted in Nathan's Sunday School class, and the topic was "Creating Heaven on Earth." I asked the class for examples of memorable "events" that they think have changed their lives forever... and Nathan immediately said. "Kimball!" I closed the lesson by reading some of your comments and bearing my testimony that the ONLY things in this world that can really give us (or at least me) a little taste of heaven inevitably spring from our families.
Thank you for enlarging ours by TWO!
Ashley!
It's 2 in the afternoon, but this post makes want to put Char in her p.j.s and sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!
So sweet! And, Sappy is just fine! You're a mommy!
That was so sweet! I loved reading that!
Well, now you have me getting misty. I love your line, " . . . just so I can spend some time in Heaven." Isn't that the truth. Heaven in a baby boy. Heaven in his touch and his breath. Heaven in two spirits blessing each other. You are the best mama ever.
I loved this post so much! He is so very special! Enjoy these moments, they go by way to fast! Then you are a grandma and you get to enjoy them all over again with the next generation!
You have some great pictures on here. Kimball is getting so big...
And he is so lucky to have a mother who dotes on him so. This is so sweet. Makes us to-be mothers look forward to it.
And yes, that's Kirby Heyborne.
Love you girl!
I LOVE this post. I completely agree with you...watching your little ones sleep is an experience that can't be matched anywhere else.
I love that first picture of him, too...so cute!
Precious! I love sleeping baby faces-- not just because they're sleeping, but just the peaceful little face is so perfect. I need to get a rocking chair... and a rain CD ;)
Sappy or not, you are the cutest mom Ashley! I love all the pictures, too - you are an artist. :)
