This is a wooden name plaque that is hung above Kimball's crib. Last Christmas (three days before Kimball was born), Jordan gave me the board and the letters. After Kimball was born, I chose the colors and began to paint. I tried to choose little boy colors, but ones that were not too baby-ish so that it will still be appropriate in a few years. Kimball's never been one to let you have much consecutive free time (but I still love him to death!), so this took me a few months to finish. I like how the sides of the letters are darker than the faces, although it is hard to see that in the picture. After I'd painted everything, I sprayed it with a glossy finish, hoping that it would end up being very shiny. But the wood must be very porous, because it doesn't glisten that much. I still think it's cute though!
For Jordan's first Father's Day, I painted this little picture frame. The heart, letters and giraffe were separate, and I glued them on after I painted them. Kimball helped too... can you see where? Yep, the giraffe's orange spots and the spots all around the frame are Kimball's little thumbprints. He also left his "signature" on the back.
And now for my favorite accomplishment as of late...
TAH-DAH!

I hand-bound this book at a bookbinding class I took Tuesday night. The instructor was a lady named Kendra Last (here is her website) who we met one Saturday selling her books at the Provo Farmer's Market. Her books are beautiful, and after a lot of excited encouragement from Jordan, I signed up for her soft spine class. (Jordan really wanted me to learn so that I can teach him too!) I think this could be one of my new favorite hobbies. I was very impressed with my results, and hope that I can make more books in the future. I think they would make excellent gifts!
(Sorry about the lighting. All these things are more vibrant in real life. I just took the pictures by bad, evening light coming though the windows.)

All of your creations are awesome, but the book is coolest of all!! I have always wanted to learn to make books. I guess the next best thing is having a friend who can make beautiful books. ;)
I'm so jealous that you can make books and that you have someone to teach you. That book is gorgeous! I wish I lived closer.
I wish you both lived closer too! Then I could teach you. I'm mulling over the idea of rebinding paperback novels or other books. If you guys have a favorite book, maybe I could try that for you for Christmas or something. Or, if you'd like blank journals instead, maybe I could try that too. It takes quite a bit of time, and I still need to buy a lot of supplies, so no promises yet!
So neat! Everything turned out fantastic and how great that you got to take the binding class!
Those look awesome, especially the book! Rebinding paperback books would be cool, and not too expensive if you bought used books.
The cool thing about all of your crafts is that they are a part of YOU and your effort and your love and your time--treasures to be cherished!
Well, now that you mention it, can I place my order for a hand-bound book Christmas? I'll even supply the supplies! That would be very awesome! I'm thinking a hand-bound copy of "Silas Marner" . . . . But don't worry, I won't hold you to any promises since I know that pesky little things like "life" take up a lot of our time :)
All you crafts are very cute. You did a very good job on all of them. I love Kimball's thumbprints as the spots on the frame. That's a really cute idea.
Thanks guys! Yeah, Mom, if you "supply the supplies", I'll definitely do a book for you!
I love all of these! Where did you get the letters/ animal cutouts? I should look around here, but I think I need to move back out west... I haven't heard of enough "crafty" things going on out here!
Awesome! I loved my book binding class. Sadly I haven't made anything since then, but it was still a really fun one. And I LOVE the Kimball sign you made. Way to be crafty...
Kristen, I think all the supplies for the first two projects came from Michael's. I think they are a national chain...? How's Cole? He sure is cute!
I lovvvvvve that book!
