If you have the spare time and like fiction, I have to recommend this book to you:

It was recommended to me, and I'm sure glad I read it. I must say, I haven't read a book in a long time that roped me in like this one. For four days I hardly washed a single dish. The kitchen started to look awful! I would find myself trying to read a paragraph here and there while Kimball was playing and running around the house. Once, I needed to help Jordan edit some documents for his grad school application, and he had to hide the book so I wouldn't get distracted. I felt like I was going through withdrawal, and heaved a sigh of relief when I had it in my hands again. It has been a long time since I was able to read for fun (without feeling guilty), rather than reading text books (since 10th grade, maybe??), and this was a nice way to start again.
The Help is a novel about three women in Jackson, Mississippi in the early '60s. Two are black maids--Aibileen and Minny--and one is a young white lady--Skeeter. The chapters switch between each woman's narration. At first I thought I would miss the voice of the woman I had been reading about, but with every switch, I was more and more hooked. Eventually, all of their stories come together in an amazing way. It was interesting to read about life for these maids in this time and place. The book is often funny and very sad. I couldn't stop thinking about these women for a few days after I had finished. I think I will have to reread it in a year's time or so, because I couldn't help reading it so fast. I want to savor it more next time. If you read it, let me know what you think!

I love it when I get so involved in a book! I will have to give this one a try! Thanks!
*adds to to-read list* I think it's hilarious that Jordan had to hide the book! I can imagine you frantically searching the apartment for it.
Ummm, I kind of did, when he left the house briefly. I knew it was in the bedroom, but I couldn't find it. He wouldn't let me look when he retrieved it for me either.
I've heard this book was really good. I'll have to add it to my list of books to read.
I'm so glad that you loved the book as much as I loved the book!!! And when I say "loved," I mean L-O-V-E-D the book! Even weeks after finishing it I find myself thinking about Aibileen and Minny and Hilly and all the rest. I'll definitely be rereading this one!
I have never heard of this book before, but I will definately have to go to my local bookstore and get it. I love books that suck you in so deep that you miss the characters when they are not there!
I have heard about this book, I guess I will have to read it when I can find a spare minute! My reading goes in cycles- I will read a lot for a couple days or a week or so, then go months without reading any fun stuff. I am always in search of a great new book though.
I'm so glad you loved this book. It is one of my favorites!
Thanks for the recommendation! I'm always looking for another book to read...I'll have to try this one.
