We took Kimball to Primary Children's on Monday for a check-up. His awesome doctor told us that since the tumor seems to be stable, we could go ahead and start weaning Kimball off of steroids. We haven't seen the tumor grow at all, but it hasn't shrunk much, either. Apparently that's OK, since the involution stage is supposed to be quite long. The doctor said he would even check with dermatology and see if anything could be done eventually about the mark on his face. That would be just for cosmetic reasons, but I'm sure Kimball would appreciate it. I felt kind of bad for worrying about his looks when when there were quite a few children with leukemia with us in the clinic that day. But mostly we feel lucky and blessed that this has turned out to be a good experience, and that Kimball will be as good as new before long. He should be completely off steroids in six weeks. I'm excited for him to be off of them--not that they are having a lot of negative side effects--I just don't like to have him on anything if he doesn't need it.
Kimball is growing and getting stronger and more energetic by the day! He loves to have fun, and his favorite thing (besides crawling and climbing) is having both Jordan and I home and playing with him at the same time. He just LOVES peek-a-boo. Here is a video of us playing peek-a-boo. He was having a blast, but it was past his bedtime, and he was very tired, which you can see towards the end as his hysterical laughs turn into cries!

Will the mark on his face be permanent if they don't do anything about it?
The doctor said it would fade, but that there would probably be a little bit there forever. I don't know how noticeable it would be, but as it is now, when he meets new people, they always asked "oh, did he get a bruise?" I just don't want him getting tons of looks for the rest of his life, but it may fade enough by itself. I would probably wait a while to treat it, so we can see just how much it will fade on its own.
Kimball is such a happy little guy! You two are such good parents! I love to watch your interaction with Kimball!
There is NOTHING in this world better than the sound of a baby laughing!!! What a sweet, sweet sound!
His laugh is so cute! I love the hysterics! I'm so glad that he's doing so well and that he can start to go off of the steroids.
It is hilarious that he starts to basically melt down at the end. The line between laughing and crying can be crossed so easily when one is tired (speaking from personal experience only). This is a great way to tire him out for sleep!
Amen to Beth's comment that you two are such good parents! Kimball's happy nature and excitement for life and learning stems from his security in knowing that he is loved by you. At least that's the way I see it.
Just think--very soon you can add a message to your sidebar that says, "Steroids . . . all done!" All three of you have been so strong and unbelievably steady throughout this whole process with Kimball. You have my admiration, respect and love.
I'm so glad he's getting better and that's great he won't have to take steroids!! He is such a cutie!! You and Jordan are so strong and such great parents! <3 ya!
