Sixth Month Sensation!

Today marks Kimball's sixth month birthday! I can hardly believe half a year has gone by already. Kimball is growing so fast and changing by the day. I'm delighted to find myself just as happy to be his mommy and take care of him, even the mundane, messy things, each day as I was the day before. Kimball has started to reach the stage where he's very preferential to his parents. I'd say he definitely has a big crush on me!

Last Monday Kimball had his last MRI. The results showed that the tumor had grown, but only slightly, by just a few millimeters. The doctor said a little growth can be normal, or it could just be an inconsistency in where they cross-sectioned the image. The scan also showed that a lot of the tumor is now scar tissue, meaning it's dead. It seems that it's starting its natural shrinking phase.

At the hospital, Kimball still sleepy from the sedation

The IV that Kimball had in his hand for the sedation for some reason stopped working when it was time for the chemotherapy. So the doctor just decided to forget it. So Kimball actually had his last chemo course two weeks ago. The amount of steroids will be the same for the next three weeks or so, then they will gradually decrease over the following month until he's off and done with treatment forever!

Some fun things that Kimball has started to do this month:
  • Crawling! It's not perfected yet, but he can definitely do the army crawl, and even move his knees underneath him now and then.
  • The squinty grin is less frequent now, as if it is no longer in vouge...
  • ...but the left-foot stomp is in!
  • He's getting better at sitting up. He can do it for a few seconds, then usually tips to one side.
  • Last week he had his first taste of rice cereal! He likes it a lot, and is very still and serious when he eats, which keeps the messiness down to a minimum.

Very first tast
e of rice cereal!

A little more used to the idea of eating from a spoon

  • Kimball loves the song, "The Wheels on the Bus". I don't know what it is, but if he's upset and I can't do much at the time (i.e. we're in the car or he's being changed) he'll calm down, I'd say about 90% time, when I sing it. No other song can do the trick!
On another subject, I have never been an aficionado of the King of Pop, but I was nevertheless very shocked to hear of Michael Jackson's sudden and unexpected death. This is Kimball's little tribute to MJ's signature dance move:

In case you couldn't tell, it's the Moonwalk; Kimball is just so talented that he can slide backward on both feet at once.

Addi was a very serious eater as well. That stopped about 12 months when she decided she didn't need to eat anymore.
The two songs that did and still do work for Addi are/were: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Eency Wency Spider.
Congratulations Kimball on hitting the 6 month mark! You are officially a big kid now!!! Also, congrats on making it through all the chemo. That is a big deal! Now, lets just get that tumor to shrink!!!

Yeah Kimball! He's so cute. It's hard to believe how fast they grow. Jonathan was the same way about holding a spoon while being fed. He had to have a spoon or else he wouldn't eat. That's wonderful news that the tumor is shrinking.

Yeah for Kimball! What a tough little guy! Kickin' that tumor in the behind!

I love the moonwalking! Such a talented little tyke! First, singing, then piano playing, now dancing! What other hidden talents will we see!?

This little guy has definitely earned some bragging rights having gone through all of the chemo and steroids with such grace and endurance!

Kimball should be on Dancing With the Stars showing off his awesome dance skills! His dance partner isn't too shabby either :)

Oh! And I loved the video of Kimball eating his first solid foods. Be sure to have the camera at the ready when you try to feed him jarred peas :( Bleh. But it will make for some great footage, I'm pretty sure.

What a great smile! That poor little guy has gone through so much (and you parents too!) I'm glad to hear treatment is on it's way out of your lives-- congrats! I can't believe he's six months old! I remember checking your & your mom's blogs over and over to see if I was going to win the bet for the day... :)

I love these pictures. He's such a goof. I fed him some cereal the other day and I couldn't stop laughing. I almost had a stroke. Kimball thought I was being so strange he just laughed right back at me which, of course, caused him to upchuck his food. Only furthering my decent in to delirium. Good job kiddo you've fulfilled the first goal of all children. You caused your father to lose his mind.
