Silas!

On November 15, 2013, we welcomed Silas Jude Haug into the world!  He was another big baby, weighing 9 lbs 12 oz (Kimball was 8 lbs 12 oz). After 13 hours from start to finish, Silas was born at the UCSD Birth Center, which was a wonderful experience. Where I feel like Kimball's birth was something that happened to me, Silas's birth was something that I did. I was more proactive this time in educating myself, reading books, practicing relaxation techniques, staying active in the form of swimming and stretching. I was more active during labor, too, walking, eating, changing positions, using the tub in the birth center. Even the labor was started by a walk on the beach. Our doula, Taryn, was key to our success. I highly recommend that everyone have a doula! There is no right or wrong way to birth a baby, and every birth is beautiful, but Silas's birth was what I wanted and it has left me proud and empowered.

In rough chronological order, here are some pictures of our new, sweet, sweet baby boy.

*SIGH* This is pure joy, right here! I am still amazed at how we can immediately fall in love with a baby even before he is born, and once he is born, it is as if there was never life without him. Goodness I love this little man! Dave and I continue to talk about how this mothering thing seems to suit you to a "T", Ashley! Your are simply wonderful!!!
