Having a boy is the cat's pajamas.
Here he is, sporting his new cowboy hat, a new lightsaber (an early birthday gift from his friend!), and big boy underwear.
He's been a sweetheart. Today he helped me make bread and rake the garden. He's really starting to utilize his imagination in ways that let me get things done while he plays by himself for over 10 minutes at at time!! Today while I made dinner for some sick friends, he was pushing his bus around with the little people inside, saying, "This the ice cream truck? This whipped cream? This whipped cream?"
Not to say that we didn't have fun playing together. We had a good hearty lightsaber duel, in which Luke told Darth Vader that no, you don't hold your lightsaber with one hand, you hold it with two, like this. (At this point Kimball had switched sides and was the jedi for a while.)
We also sat down while dinner was cooking and made this little Christmas tree out of the cardboard triangles that hugged the corners of a frame I bought at the craft store. Somehow I got the bright idea that when stacked, they looked like a tree, so he colored them with watercolor pencils, then painted them with water.
He was fairly interested, briefly, and I think he had fun, but I assumed he was kind of ho-hum about it.
Later, I had to go to the store, so Jordan volunteered to put Kimball to bed. As I was saying goodbye, he said, "Thank you making that tree with me."
!!!!!!!!!!
1) He thanks me out of the blue, and
2) He thanks me for doing a craft??
I think I can die happy now. My life's ambitions are fulfilled.

Awwwwwww, he is the cutest little sith cowboy crafter I have ever seen!!! And, what more could a mother want? An unprompted thank you AND a crafting buddy? You've got one in a million there with that boy! I can't stop thinking about what a great husband he will make someday; it seems that he recognizes those female needs very, very well!
Do you see those slim little legs on your cowboy? Guess whose little three-year-old legs looked EXACTLY like that? I'm looking at you, Ash :D
