Funny Kid

Kimball and I have joined the local YMCA. I am loving this! I like the facilities and the classes. I like how there are a variety of people, of all shapes, sizes, and ages, working out, and not just hunks and models like in the last college town we lived in. Kimball and I love the playcare, which is both inside and outside. I'm super excited to sign him up for a gymnastics class soon.

A little background: Kimball has been enjoying using the potty, but can't keep a pair of underpants dry for very long, but like I said earlier, I'm not in a huge hurry. But he does like to go like the "big boys" now and then.

Today, he was at the playcare for about an hour. When it was time to go, I picked him up and thought something felt different. Then he told me he went potty. I asked, "oh, in your diaper?" and I just pulled back his waistband for a little peek. No diaper. Nothing under his shorts. So, so odd. Laughingly, I asked one of the supervisors if she knew why he didn't have a diaper on. She was very surprised, and replied that a bunch of the kids had gone to the bathroom for a potty break, and he went into a stall, and she just assumed he knew what he was doing, because he sure acted like it!

So Kimball and I headed back to the bathroom to put a diaper on before he had an accident (I don't know how long he was without a diaper, but luckily, he was dry!). He showed me the stall he had gone in, and said,

"My go in here, my go potty, my sit here, my go potty by myself, here's my diaper!" And he opened up the little box hanging on the wall of the stall, and there was his diaper, all crumpled up. I could not stop laughing. That funny, funny kid! Either he didn't know what to do about getting a new diaper, or he just didn't care. He is so into doing things himself these days.

This is so hilarious. The best part of the story is how beautifully you handled what could have been a messy situation.

UPDATE FOR READERS: It happened again today at the YMCA. They let Kimball use the bathroom by himself and he emerged soaked in water. He fell into the toilet. Thankfully he hadn't used it yet.
