This first was held outside of the Geisel library on campus. There was a fantastic looking cake, a huge Cat in the Hat with which Kimball was smitten, and a display of hands-on music makers. These included normal instruments, but also telephones (Kimball's obvious favorite), typewriters, coconut shells, and other weird and wacky gadgets. Kimball loved these the best.
The second party was smaller and held at one of the community rooms in our complex. Kimball (and a lot of his friends) arrived in pajamas, since it was close to bedtime. Food, friends, games, coloring, and a raffle in which Kimball entered a coloring page and won a felt board complete with Dr. Seuss characters and the alphabet, made for a fun night!
We love Dr. Seuss at our house. Some of Kimball's favorites are The Cat in the Hat, Ten Apples Up on Top, Hop on Pop, Green Eggs and Ham, and most recently, What Was I Scared Of?, an eerie, little known story in the book The Sneetches and Other Stories.
I was so happy that Kimball loved this story, because it was always one of my favorites as a little girl. I loved those spooky pale green pants with nobody inside. Kimball started to help me narrate and tell me how the "mouse" was feeling by mock-screaming or saying "happy!" We had to return the book to the library, but he asked me to read it so many times that you can bet I've almost got it memorized, and can give it a pretty good dramatic reading, too.

What a fabulous event! How lucky for you to live so close to all of this kooky fun-ness! I bet this was every little kid's dream come true. I love that top picture of you and Kimball; you look so darling, Ash! And, that bottom picture of Kimball with the red sucker has ripped out my heart--just look at that little face that needs a big kiss from me!
Sounds like a lot of fun! The decorations and cake were fantastic for that first party. And, the second little party looked like a dream for Kimball and his friends!
How fun! I love Dr. Seuss too! What a fun and exciting party!
I had never heard of the book "What was I scared of?" until Randy brought that home for Addison one day. We love Dr. Seuss and read only his books at bedtime. Our favorites are "And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street", "Ten apples up on top" and Wacky Wednesday. Those three are must haves at bedtime.
I LOVE "The Sneetches and Other Stories"...my brothers and I used to think those floating pants were hilarious growing up.
Dr. Seuss was a genius. Period.
