A Party!

Last weekend, I took Kimball to Target with me, and while we were shopping he pointed to some kind of display that was on the wall. There were a bunch of kids, and maybe some balloons, I don't remember. He got really excited and said, "Party! Party!" I had no idea he knew exactly what a party was, how to recognize one, or how to pronounce the word.

Lately parties have become a new obsession. On Wednesday, we went to a birthday party for Dr. Seuss at the Geisel library at UCSD (his real name was Ted Geisel, and he donated a lot to the library in his later years--more about that party another time). Anyway, there were cake and balloons and music, and Kimball had a blast.

Now when we get to the part in "Go Dog, Go!" where the dogs all go to "that big tree over there" to attend "a dog party! A big dog party! Red dogs, yellow dogs" etc, and "I like it! I like that party hat!, he pleads to attend the party, and I have to tell him that it's not real, it's just a drawing in the book.

Tonight he was talking non-stop about parties. So while he was in his bath, I made up a quick little chocolate cake, blew up a few balloons with Jordan, and got out some of the party hats from his second birthday (I know, I know, I will post about that sometime before his third birthday, I promise). Kimball got out of the bath, into his PJs, and SURPRISE!

In this video, can you hear him singing for himself?  "Happy birthday to...me!"

Sorry about the bit in the video that sounds all staticy. I had my fingers over the microphone. I do that ALL the time! I also had some great party music ready to go, but forgot to turn it on. Oh well, I'm sure we'll have some more parties soon.

I just hope this doesn't cause him to expect a party every night!

*Sniff, sniff* Do I have the best daughter and son-in-law in the whole wide universe or what?!!! I mean it, you two! Is this not the sweetest, cutest most tender thing a set of parents have ever done for their beautiful little boy! Kimball is so, so blessed. I'd go so far as to say that Kimball is seriously so blessed :D

I love hearing the little squeals when Kimball sees the balloons, and his singing to himself is over the top in cuteness! I wish I could be at Kimball's party. Lucky duck. So adorable. Good job, guys!

(I just HAD to show this to Marian tonight; she loved it, of course!)
