On Sunday a lot of the family got together at my Grandpa and Grandma Sagers' house to celebrate Grandpa's 80th birthday! Grandma was so sweet to organize a fun party for him. It is always so nice to see aunts, uncles, and cousins. Being with family was a great way to start off the week of Christmas.
All of Grandpa's sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren wrote a note to him saying why they love him and telling fond memories of him. It was neat to hear everyone's favorite memories of Grandpa and stories of him being an awesomely patient dad to six rambunctious sons.
I love my grandpa because he is so kind and sweet. No one can remember a time when he ever lost his temper ("you didn't see me the other day when I found a virus on our computer" said Grandpa). Although he's pretty quiet, he always has great stories to tell. He is an example to me of faith, service, and love, and of the most wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. I used to love visiting Grandma and Grandpa's house every summer because Grandpa would show us around his garden or his workshop. He is a master craftsman. We had a beautiful toy chest when we were children made for us by Grandpa. One year he carved our names for my brothers and me in beautiful stained wood. He used to take me to his lab at BYU where he worked as a microbiology professor and show me his bacteria cultures. When I was ten he gave me a microscope for Christmas, which was one of my favorite Christmas presents ever. I have so many fun memories of Grandpa and am so greatful to belong to his wonderful family. It is amazing how much of a good influence one man can have on so many people in so many generations. Happy Birthday, Grandpa! I love you!

I love what a wonderful example Grandpa is to me. Even though I did not grow up in the Sagers family I've been deeply touched by the standard that Grandpa Sagers sets for everyone in the family. He is a pilar of righteousness and an upstanding father figure to us all. He is probably the most mild-mannered person I've ever known. He shows how one of the marks of a true disciple of Christ is selfmastery. I've never even heard of Grandpa ever being anything other than content and loving. Perhaps the best example that he has set for me is in how he treats his wife. I've always been touched at how they are always holding hands and his first priority is always Grandma (she claims that the hand holding is just to keep each other steady, but I think we all know better). I just hope that one day I will be as wise, loving, and gentle as Grandpa Sagers. I hope that one day my little Kimball will grow up to be a man like his great-grandpa. I love you Grandpa,
Jordan
