While Ashley was finishing up at school I came home early to make her the dinner she requested. Ashley wanted her mom's no meat chili (which we cooked in the crock pot), butternut squash cornbread, and yams with butternut squash. We have both been craving comfort foods and I think that is exactly what we got. A wonderful meal with a wonderful girl.
Those are marshmallows on the squash and yams.
We have a tradition that every year I make Ashley a cheesecake. The catch is that it has to be a recipe of my own. This year I made a white chocolate cheesecake with almond graham cracker crust. The cake was topped off with a dark chocolate creme brulee and strips of white and dark chocolate fudge (with a few berries). This really was one of the better cheesecakes that I've made.
Ashley also got children's books for her birthday. It is so exciting to think of Ashley reading to our cute little Kimball after he is born. She has such a loving heart and will be an example of tender care. She already reads to Kimball every night. I know that we are all blessed to have Ashley in our lives--especially me. I am so glad to have the opportunity to celebrate the day that she came into this world. We love you sweet heart!Love,
Jordan

Thanks sweetheart! I had a wonderful birthday. This was seriously one of THE best meals I've had in a long time. It was so good, I couldn't stop eating! (It's kind of funny though, how the picture of your meal is almost identical to the picture of mine, and I'm even wearing the same sweatshirt...) So, everyone out there, I did request cornbread, but Jordan found this marvelous recipe for butternut squash cornbread, and it was probably the best cornbread I've ever had. Look at that cheesecake too! Aren't I lucky to be married to a husband who is such a good cook? I like this little tradition we started of making each other birthday dinners. :)
Happy Birthday! I didn't realize your birthday fell within the same week of all the other November birthdays. What books did you get?
After singing to you last night and hearing what Jordan was making for your birthday dinner, we wished we were there with you--to hug and kiss you (and Kimball and Jordan, too)--and to have some of that wonderful cheesecake!!
We give thanks that Jordan found you and brought you into our family! You are a treasure, and we love you dearly!
Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Ashley!
I am very jealous of that lovely spread...especially the cheesecake! Way to go, Jordan! The cornbread also looks delicious. There is nothing better than cornbread and chili on a cold day. Yum!
And hooray for Wall-E. I love that movie so much! I even teared up a little in the theater at the end. Yes, I'm lame. :)
I hope you had a wonderful birthday!
Real men CAN cook! Way to go Jordan! Your meal smelled and looked so delicious last night! I think you should enter your creme brulee cheesecake in one of those bake-off contests--it's a winning combination, that's for sure!
Wow, Jordan, that cheesecake looks PERFECT! I can't believe you invented it! I want to try making the cornbread.
Ashley - I was confused for a moment by the two pictures that look identical, haha. That's so cool that you guys cooked bday dinners for each other. Are you tired of squash/yam/pumpkin dishes yet? haha.
HOLY YUMMY
Man! I want to come to dinner sometime!
And, I do have your adorable baby shower gift! I just need to get it to your mom!
Happy Birthday missy!!!
Your husband seems very sweet!
Happy Birthday Ashley! We hope you had a wonderful day!
