Oh Boy!

Yes, we're having a boy!!!! We went to our ultrasound appointment yesterday and saw our sweet, adorable little baby for the first time. It was so cute. He was rolling and swimming and twisting like crazy, and I couldn't even feel most of it! I was surprised to see how much he must move without me knowing. The ultrasound guy had trouble getting certain views since the baby was moving so much, but he eventually showed us everything even though he had to skip around a lot. We saw his brain, heart, stomach, kidneys, bladder, lungs, and spinal cord. The baby looks healthy and normal. He weighs about a pound! Over and over again he proudly displayed the fact that he was indeed a boy, but he kept hiding his face by burrowing it towards my back. We did get a few cute glimpses of his nose and mouth, and a really neat profile view of him swallowing some fluid. From the beginning to the end of the session we saw that his little bladder gradually got a bit larger. This baby is so cute! I loved seeing his little feet and his little fingers waggling into a fist and open again. Here are just a few of the ultrasound pictures that we got to take home:

Here is one of the baby's side. The ultrasound guy kind of had a sense of humor. I do think the baby has great looking biceps though!

This one's a little hard to see at first. It's a front shot of the face, but it goes side to side. You can see the nose (more humor from this guy) and the upper lip. The baby's hands are covering the rest of his face. You can especially see the right hand.

A cute little leg and foot!

The gender shot looking from below. No questions here!

I was definitely surprised that it was a boy. For some reason I thought it would be more likely to be a girl (and so did most other people we talked to!), but Jordan and I both loved the idea of a boy. So it was a wonderful surprise. Now we can't even imagine who else it would be. I think I dreamed about him all night! We are even pretty sure about a name: Kimball Jordan Haug*. It's nice to put an identity with our baby. We feel even closer to him than before. We're so excited to welcome little Kimball into our family. He has so many relatives and friends who love him so much already. He is definitely a lucky little boy!

*For those who haven't heard the name for a while, the vowels in Haug sound like the vowels in mouse or house. I understand any confusion because I didn't even pronounce it correctly the first time I saw it!

Baby Kimball! I am so excited for your little BOY to be born! I will have a grandson! Isn't it all such a miracle? It's a miracle that a baby is growing so normally and perfectly; it's a miracle that we all have so much love for this little guy who isn't even born yet; it is a miracle how much love this baby generates between the rest of us because of our common joy in this event. I'm tearing up so I'll knock off now. I love you Ashley, Jordan and Kimball!!!!

Congratulations on the little boy! I am very excited for you guys! Babies are such sweet spirits and it is so fun just to watch them grow every single day. You hear the saying that you learn something new everyday and it is especially true with the little ones! The sense of satisfaction that they get when they accomplish something is just the greatest thing to see as a parent. I am so very excited for the both of you to be joining this club!

I have been OBSESSIVELY checking your blog since I got back to Wisconsin on Monday, but I'm still not the first to comment. :P

CONGRATULATIONS!!

I think everyone (including you) thought the little squirt was going to be a girl so that a little boy would be a surprise. And what a wonderful surprise. I sorta feel like an honorary aunt, and I can't wait for this little boy to be born. How exciting!

As the first grandbaby in this generation of the Haug family, Kimball steps into the spot his daddy always had in his generation:

やや早き
しげき古木に
新芽見ゆ

"Ever so quickly
On the ancient tree's first branch
Spring's first bud appears"

Maybe I'll just nickname him "Sprout!"

We love you guys and are grateful to be able to be a part of it.

Dad (Soon to be "Grandpa")

Congratulations! I think it's kind of cool that the baby ended up not being a girl like everyone expected (though I think I voted "boy" - can't remember though!). Good to hear the baby is so active. I like the ultrasound labels hahaha.
