Santa!

We're back. I really haven't felt like posting anything lately. I think I'm getting kind of bored with blogging...or maybe it's just that I've been busy doing other things, like getting ready for Christmas, in my spare time. Whatever the case is, I'll try to be more regular in writing...for the five or so who read.*

Tonight was our ward Christmas party. The theme was The Polar Express (the picture book and movie). We were served up breakfast for dinner, and the kids (and adults) were invited to come in their pajamas. The Polar Express movie played in the background on a projector. After a great dinner and a few Christmas songs, Santa arrived!

I had been prepping Kimball all day about Santa. It seems like most toddlers get freaked out when they're placed on the jolly old elf's lap, so we spent the day like this:

"Are you going to see Santa tonight?"
"YEAH!"
"Does Santa have a big beard/red coat/black boots/big belt/red hat?"
"YEAH!"
"What does Santa say?"
"Ho ho ho"
"Do you want to sit on Santa's lap?"
"YEAH!"

He also pointed to his chin a lot to indicate that Santa indeed has a beard.

So when the time came, Kimball was second in line. I wouldn't say he was ecstatic, but he wasn't shy about it either. Funny thing, when Santa walked in, his belt was sliding off of his waist, and and his wig and hat were sliding off his head. His assistants kept trying to fix him up as he was ho-ho-ho-ing and Merry Christmas-ing. I don't believe he was anyone we knew, because he said "Ho! Ho! Ho! It's so nice to be here in the Elkhorn 4th Ward!" (We are in the UC 2nd Ward. Some unfortunate man, er, Santa's Helper, must have gotten cornered into ward hopping.)

So here you go. Kimball dances to a Josh Groban song (love his perfect little hop on the glissando), Santa makes an entrance, Kimball meets Santa, and Kimball makes happy, sad, mad, and surprised faces.

Good Saint Nick, spectacles askew.

Santa's stylist hops to the rescue.

Kimball chillin with a pal.

I'm sorry, but Kimball totally looks like he is taking a drag on his candy cane.

You can see our fine dinner company in the background.

*Side note: blogging is weird and kind of hard because you have no idea who your audience is, other than the people who comment. Readers, don't be shy...say hi! I don't care about the number of comments, since the blog is mostly about documenting Kimball's life for us and family members.  I'm just curious who's there, ya know? Chances are you are dear family or friends and we love you. Even if you're not, we'll love you anyway!

I love his little hop. That was so cute! And, he definitely wasn't shy seeing Santa. He went right up to him, didn't he?

How much time do you have? Because I could take an entire hour talking about the adorableness of this entire post! The video is a keeper! Dad and I were cracking up at Kimball's faces because we used to make you do the exact same thing! Like Mommy, like son :D

How funny is THAT that the Santa called out the wrong ward! Kinda like a rock band touring from city to city, giving shoutouts to LA when they are really in Boise. Your Santa is waaaaaaaaaaay too funny. And his belt? And his hair? Were you looking around for the hidden camera? :D

My favorite part of this post, though, has to be the pic of Kimball taking a drag, as you say. It almost looks like he's some kind of a swinger saying, "Hey, Babe. Wanna blow this joint and go hit the playground or somethin'?"

What an evening to remember. So glad you posted about it all!!!

Your Santa picture turned out WAY better than our Santa picture. His dancing was too cute.

I love the many faces of Kimball! He is just so darn cute! Makes an old auntie want to reach right through the computer and pinch those adorable little cheeks!

That kiddo is Just. Too. Cute. I need to meet the little guy some day soon!

Kimball's little "emotion faces" shtick was awesome. The best part was definitely the growl he added to distinguish the mad face from the sad face. :)

Love the dancing! What a cute kid...he's got some serious moves going on.

I'm also equally impressed that he sat on Santa's lap and didn't cry. Kudos to him!

Hi Ashley - as you can see although I wrote in your Christmas card that I had lost your blogspot address - I have found it again, and loved reading about Kimball's close encounter of a bearded kind - also loved his expressions - he's just the perfect age when everything is so natural and he hasn't learnt to hide his feelings.
Santa also visited our Granddaughter at her nursery - my, doesn't he get around at the speed of light! - and Rebekah was totally underwhelmed by the whole experience, but when Santa went in to the next room to visit the slightly older children, all you could hear was crying, so just as well you prepared Kimball first!!
Hope you and all the family have a wonderful Christmas - and a very Happy New Year to you all too!
Love Di (and Dave!) xx
