When Price=Quality

First off, I know I never update our food blog, but last night we made this, and it was awesome. Katie, maybe you can take this and turn it into something spectacular!

Now down to business. When we shop, it is almost always for the cheapest brand. I don't care much for name brands, especially when the generic is just as good. I'm thinking here of things like food (although with food we choose healthy first, then inexpensive within that healthy realm), household supplies, clothing, etc. "Choose cheap!" I think.

On rare occasions, though, I find that with increased price comes increased quality. For example, a few weeks ago I bought the cheapest brand of paper towels that I could find at Wal-Mart, instead of our usual Costco Kirkland brand paper towels, because they cost less per sheet. But I quickly found that they were less than half as absorbant, and I was going through the rolls at lightning speed. Today we bought more of our trusty Kirkland towels--not top notch, but not bottom rung, either. I've also noticed that makeup seems to increase in quality with price, although anyone who pays $50 for a bottle of foundation is crazy. I should also add that even though some name brands may be better, I don't really care (i.e. Ziplock baggies vs. generic baggies).

What kind of products are you willing to pay more for because the quality is worth it? I'm curious.

I can buy Western Family, or the cheapest brand, in a lot of foods. But, there are some that I'm unwilling to budge in because they just taste better. Namely, ketchup (must be Heinz), Miracle Whip, mustard (must be French's), Macaroni & Cheese (must be Kraft), Ramen (must be Top Ramen), and Instant Oatmeal (must be Quaker).

I like tools and I learned at a young age that for the most part as far as tools are concerned you get what you pay for. With that said you still need to do your home work and investigate brands etc but a well built tool should last a lifetime vs a cheap tool that you need to buy over and over again.

I have to agree. Sometimes, I go for quality rather than price as well. I think I have to agree with Jenni on everything she buys name brand except the Miracle Whip and the French's mustard. I am a fan of Heinz's Spicy Brown Mustard (they have the best spicy mustard) and we buy the Kraft Mayonnaise. But you definately, definately, definately have buy Kraft Macaroni and Cheese over the other brands. You will be sadly disappointed if you don't. (You probably don't eat mac & cheese, but it is a staple at our house with our picky little eater...that's dinner EVERY night!)
And for paper towels, I do spend more money on them than I probably should, but I am absolutely in love with the Viva brand choose your size paper towels. I just love that I can choose three (3) different sizes rather than one big piece of paper towel.

Mmm, mac & cheese...I admit I'm a sucker for it. Jordan hates it, so I buy it just for myself. I'm sure that Kraft is noticeably better, but I just can't resist a 25 cent box of Western Family! What can I say, I'm frugal.

Christine, yes, saran wrap is a big one!

I do buy a lot of store brands or Western Family stuff, however, I admit that I do like quality in my T.P. I love either Charmin or Quilted Northern. It seems like a nice little bit of pampering.

I also have to go with Old El Paso enchilada sauce. La Victoria and other brands just don't cut it. Not even close!

Nothings makes me happier than to get a great deal! I hate to pay full price for anything! I'm not patient enough to clip coupons and run around to all the different stores! But I love a good sale! I have to have a nice soft 2-ply TP!!! Must have!
